I Am The One Who Builds Up Life!

I am the child of a love I’ve never seen.

Where there was dirt I planted seeds;

I whispered to them what no one heard.

As I counted stars I counted far away places

While imagining a life for me far from home.

I know you wanted us to stay here,

To be something you already knew.

I wouldn’t have lessened myself because

You are the far away place I can’t reach.

You are never a star I look for;

You are the vilest moon,

The biggest “what if” in the sky.

You gleamed merely from my love

And now you mock it, yes I can tell,

You mock it like you are pleading.

August skies are harder to see light in—

In summer’s haze, you are barely shining.

You consider yourself “free from ordeal,”

But the truth is fear follows you places.

You grew up in front of your own shadow,

You’ve begun to think you are above it all,

Where you belong is far behind yourself.

Please, tell me again how you feel so I could

fix it.

Because the truth is, you are close to

unsalvageable;

You won’t let the heat come anywhere near

you.

I want to grab both shoulders and shake,

“Look behind! You are the little boy in you!

I want to love the misunderstanding out!”

Why couldn’t you have made yourself?

What happens when you’re unnoticed?

When your back is to me and you are dark

Whilst I am beaming with what matters?

You don’t know what it is when I am better.

Everything about me is new to you now.

My garden is built and is immune to sterility…

I’d invite you in but my seeds are blossoming.

Yes, it is still that spring of ours where I am;

It’s not August, I’m not begging to forget.

It’s April and I’m afraid I won’t remember.
